Independent Living Grant

Program Summary

Independent Living Grants are one-time grants to help consumers with the cost of moving into independent living arrangements.  Funds are primarily for the purchase of basic furniture, household items, rental deposits, and other one-time expenses associated with setting up a new household.  Priority is given to requests from individuals planning to move out on their own for the first time, though other requests will be considered.  Grants range in size from $500 to $5,000 per household.

To be eligible for a CHF Grant, Individuals must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Be a client of IRC for a minimum of 12 months.

  • Demonstrate the ability to live independently as determined by IRC and the consumer’s SLS worker.

  • Demonstrate the financial ability to live independently.

  • Receive income not exceeding $2,000 per month.

  • Receive regular and appropriate Supported Living Services from an IRC approved vendor.
